Imagine A Pocket-friendly 5g Phone

We saw the debut of 5g phones like Galaxy S10 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro and LG V50 5G at prices within the range of N289,200 to N361,500. We saw them as very expensive even though they gave us the assurance and reality of the latest high-speed mobile connectivity except the Verizon exclusive Motorola Moto Z4 which has its price at N159,100 but can connect to 5G only on a separate accessory.

This new year 2020, we could be looking at getting less expensive 5G phones as introduced at the CES on Tuesday. Coolpad a new in the market Chinese phone maker launched it’s first 5G phone called “Legacy” as one of the cheapest 5G phones yet. This phone would be available at the second quarter of the year at N144,600 only and would be unlocked through Coolpad and Amazon along with other US retailers.

This lower price range of N144,600 at this stage will definitely open up 5G access to more users, but relatively unknown companies like Coolpad stand a chance of facing an uphill battle in the US. Coolpad is based in Shenzhen, China, and has been selling phones in the US since 2012.

Don’t be scared, 5G won't replace 4G in its entirety, just that the next-gen network works incredibly fast, which means many industries will benefit from it, including self-driving cars, drones and the internet of things.

Along with the Legacy by Coolpad is TCL 5G phone called 10 Pro which is expected to fall within the range of N180,750.

The Legacy has the following specifications

• 6.53-inch FHD Plus display

• Android 10

• Two rear cameras: 48- and 8-megapixel (wide-angle)

• 16-megapixel front-facing camera

• 4GB RAM/64GB memory

• Qualcomm 7250 processor

• 4,000-mAh battery

• Bluetooth 5.0

As it stands, this implies there are a lot of goodies in terms of phones in stock for this 2020.
